The Lavadeira Festival began in 1987 in Paiva Beach (PE), and is Immaterial and Cultural Heritage of Pernambuco. In 30 years of Festival, were over 1,000 presentations of popular culture groups. In 2016 the Lavadeira dolls walked with the people and met in Recife Antigo for another edition of the Festival. 2015 - 29th Lavadeira Festival - The party goes to Vila de São Jorge, Goiás
The party was permeated by the colors of Maracatu de Baque Virado, Ciranda, Afoxé, Caboclinhos e Côco, notable traditions of Pernambuco culture. In partnership with Casa da Cultura Cavaleiro de Jorge, Instituto Jardim Cultural and the local government the Lavadeira Festival marked its presence in the Chapada dos Veadeiros, Vila de São Jorge, Goiás, from 30 April to 2 May.

2014 - The Festival goes away from Recife/PE
28th Lavadeira Festival was performed for the last time in Recife, a last gasp for survival in Pernambuco. The intolerance of mayor of the Recife town, Mr. Geraldo Julio, and the state government of Pernambuco, made ​​the biggest party of the popular culture of the Northeast and Brazil were frustrated. The Lavadeira Festival now goes away from Recife and Pernambuco, and will celebrate its 29 years on another ground...

 


2013 - 27th Lavadeira Festival.
Held since 1987, is the largest celebration of popular culture in Brazil, representing the Northeast of Brazil, the State of Pernambuco and the city of Recife. Awarded nationally recognized by the UN, title of Immaterial Patrimony of Pernambuco, Pernambuco People's Patrimony and part of the Tourist Calendar of Pernambuco.
The Lavadeira Festival is tradition and history. Come join this great meeting that always happen on May 1st, from 10am to 22pm, now in the Bairro de São José, Recife.
Generating income, supporting the craft, encouraging and valuing the culture, creating new audiences. Presents to 80,000 people a great show of love, happiness and cultural identity.
